Structure

The TOEFL has a straightforward and logical format. The exam is divided into four sections: speaking, writing, listening, and reading. The test lasts for four and a half hours. Teachers give you the following descriptions of each section:

TOEFL Scorecard Explained

Each TOEFL section is assigned a score between 0 and 30, which is then summed together to produce a final score between 0 and 120. To effectively assess the candidate’s skill proficiency, the score range is further divided into four or five proficiency levels. However, there is no passing or failing score for the TOEFL exam because each university or organization has its own set of score requirements. The TOEFL is a leading English language proficiency test that is solely graded by a centralized scoring network. Within six days after the test, the results are made public and are valid for two years. Prior to the test, ETS enables candidates to designate the institutions that will receive their individual scorecards. However, following the test, candidates can also provide additional score reports.

Registration for TOEFL

Prior to TOEFL registration, one must select the testing location and confirm that the dates are open there. The exam facility that is selected will determine the dates. Although online registration is available around-the-clock, it closes seven days before the test date and three days before in the case of last-minute registrations, which incur an additional late fee of 40 USD over the regular fee. Using a VISA credit or debit card, you can finish registration by paying the registration fee of USD 190. The steps for TOEFL registration are as follows:

Candidates must either register for a new account or sign in to an existing one on the TOEFL official website.

Create a profile 

Candidates would be required to carefully develop their TOEFL test-taker profile. They would be requested to offer further details that would be helpful throughout the application process or when submitting their TOEFL results.

Select a date and location for your TOEFL exam

Candidates would have to select the TOEFL Exam Date that would work best for them as test takers. Then, candidates have the option of taking the test at a nearby Test Center or at home using the recently introduced TOEFL at Home option.

Pay the TOEFL registration fee 

The candidate will be taken to the exam payment gateway page after selecting his selected Test Date and Exam Center. Candidates are required to pay a US $190 TOEFL registration cost or TOEFL form fee. 

Verify and submit your TOEFL application
